The Boxer

from Creeping Ash by Paul Henry Smith

lyrics

The Boxer

The boxer steps into the ring
he can hear the crowd cheering
he looks around with his broken eyes
his opponent struts towards him
like a new lion on the pride
the old master must fight one last time

and he reaches for his prime
falls short every time

the boxer feels back at home
then he thinks of his wife
this is when his face is torn
blood flys through the air
scarlet on the canvas floor
he has fallen further that he has fallen before

he lies upon the beaten ground
he listens to the fading sounds
the lights above dull and go out
he's a wakened by a flickering reel
suddenly the light fills the room
his wife grabs his glass as it falls to the floor

and he reaches for his pride
and holds on to his wife

about

Paul Henry Smith Falkirk, UK

I'm from Falkirk, I built a small studio with much loved hand me downs and second hand gear.

When I record I get lost in an emotion, it spills onto the disc, sometimes it messy, sometimes its a rather wonderful painting I can keep forever.
